Design Museum

When I was in London, I went to a graphic design museum and took these photographs about the Kodak camera that was designed by Kenneth Grange in 1956. It shows the process of how they designed it and the way it was meant to look like. I found it fascinating to see the process from designing the exterior on paper then making moulds and adding the colour and design on. The museum showed many graphic designers’ work and how it has adapted over the years while the technology has adapted too. From the comfort of a chair to the posters that are put onto bus stops, the museum showed broad examples of designers’ work.
I went to the Tate Modern museum as well while I was there, however I could not take any images in there. There was a photography exhibition on in there called ‘Photography: New Documentary Forms’, where photographers such as Guy Tillim and Akram Zaatari exhibited their work. I found the images quite dark and empty. They were of real people and places, but looked vey surreal. All the photographers who displayed their work had concentrated their subject on the conflicts in the war of Iraq and Afghanistan so the images were bound to be quite compelling.
There was a huge wall mount of Boris Mikhailov’s work which I found really odd and uneasy. They looked quite out of place compared to the work of the other photographers mentioned.

Tree Structures

I was looking at the different shapes and structures of trees, from the leaves to the roots; the bark and the branches. They are very intricate and individual, stemming out and winding trunks.

My Lillies

Lillies are my favourite flower and when I was bought some I wanted to photograph them and show off their beauty. I wanted to take photos from every angle of the flower, not just the petals but the leaves and the inside of the lilly.

Texture

I wanted to capture texture in photography, 3D structure. I just looked at different fine artists.

River Bank

I wanted to concentrate on the scenary around a river, getting shadows that are cast and the lush grass. The second image is my favourite out of this collection. The hay bales look framed by the trees around them.

Shades

I got the idea for this photoshoot when I was looking through a magazine and saw some images of Audrey Hepburn, they looked so glamourous and posed. This kind of shoot could also be used to sell sunglasses. This is what I was trying to achieve, a kind of advertisement.

Through the window

I went to Ireland over the summer and went looking around an old castle. There were lots of little walk ways and holes where the doors were. When looking through the arch ways, it's like looking through a window, some of it is blocked off and only specific things are shown.

The Celtic Tiger

When I went to Ireland again over the summer, I was told about a story of the Celtic Tiger that swept over Ireland when the country was in great profit. People bought plots of land and had extravagant and extremely over the top entrances to their houses. I wanted to capture the effect of it.

Patterns

I captured patterns and texture from everyday natural objects that I found interesting. Things that people would walk past and ignore, I found looked beautiful.

The Lake District

I went to the Lake District over the summer and went to a place called Tarn  Hows where they had stunning mountains and lakes. I thought it was the perfect place to take spectacular photographs. The last image is my favourite because of the lake in it as well.

Human Doll

I wanted to create some surreal photography. I dressed my younger sister up as a doll because she has very porcelain skin anyway and big blue eyes. She looks really creepy and strange to look at which is the look that I wanted.

By the river

I really love scenic photography. I stood on a few bridges and took photographs over and down the river, concentrating on capturing all the scenary around.
